Georgie “George” Hayden Sykes, 62, died Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011, at his home in Hartshorn.

He was born March 15, 1949, in St. Louis, son of Johnny “John” Hayden and Ethel Mae Riley Sykes. He and Dorothy Fay Cook were married June 20, 1987.

He served in the Army from 1969-’80. He served in Vietnam and was also stationed in Germany.

He loved being outdoors and especially liked to hunt and fish.

He was proceeded in death by his father and a son, Johnny James Sykes.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of Hartshorn; his mother, Ethel of Hartshorn; a daughter, Michelle Marr of the Houston area; a stepson, Steven Sykes of Fort Campbell, Ky.; two stepdaughters, Lindsey Sykes of West Plains and Alycia Sykes Venn of West Plains; four granddaughters; a grandson; a step-grandson; and many friends.

Services were Tuesday, Oct. 25, at Bradford Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dorvan Stringer officiating. Burial with military honors was in Antioch Cemetery.
