Revenue from sales taxes collected in Houston are up for the year.

Sales tax revenue collected by Houston merchants increased about 3.5 percent over the same monthly period a year ago, the Missouri Department of Revenue reports. 

The tally from a one-cent sales tax totaled $54,225, which is up $1,837 from a year ago.

For the first three quarters of the year, the City of Houston has collected $485,778, an increase of $2,529 from a year ago.

Two quarter-cent sales taxes earmarked for streets, sidewalks and utilities, totaled $12,946, which was up $465 from the same period a year ago.

An eighth-cent sales tax for debt repayment on a fire engine totaled $6,473, up $232 from a year ago.
