The Houston eighth grade girls’ basketball team advanced to the championship game of the Mountain Grove Tournament with a 22-12 victory Thursday against Thayer.

Sarah Kelley scored eight points and Autumn Walker had six for the Lady Tigers (2-0), who led 10-2 after the opening quarter.

Shelbi Cremer, Krista Scott, Makayla Koch and Chloe Morning had two points apiece.

“We had a lot of good looks around the basket and just couldn’t finish,” Lady Tigers coach John Jordan said. “Defensively, the girls created a lot of turnovers and did enough to win.”

SEVENTH GRADE: Jaydin Ramsey scored 15 points as the Houston seventh grade girls beat Thayer 39-12 Thursday for their first victory of the season.

Alexis Dison scored nine points and Alyssa Hayes had eight for Houston, which raced ahead 12-4 in the opening quarter. Houston (1-1) increased its 12-point halftime lead with a 15-2 advantage in the third quarter.

“The girls were much more aggressive offensively taking the ball to the basket,” Jordan said. “They were better under control, and they played hard.”
