Emergency personnel from several agencies responded Tuesday at about noon to the building on Spruce Street in downtown Houston that houses Air-Evac Lifeteam and the Exceptional Child Education Cooperative.

Representatives of the City of Houston Fire Department, Houston Police Department and Missouri State Highway Patrol went to the location after a report was received that smoke was filling the interior of the building.

As a search was conducted to find the source of the smelly smoke, employees of both companies were evacuated. The source was determined to be a burned-out furnace motor that was sending smoke through the building’s ventilation system.
