The concert choir from Houston High School placed first in the all-conference choir competition Nov. 19 in Willow Springs.

The women’s choir also placed third at the event, which included 10 choirs.

Both choirs received excellent ratings and comments from the judges. The concert choir receiving a perfect score from one of the judges.

Each choir had to perform two works of contrasting styles. Underclassmen comprise 80 percent of the women’s choir.

“The choir has great leadership and experience in our upperclassmen and outstanding discipline and talent in our younger students,” said director Beth Williamson.
