A large awning from Texas County Memorial Hospital was moved Wednesday morning to the Lone Star Plaza.
Accompanied by escorts from the Houston Police Department, a flat-bed tractor-trailer slowly moved the awning from the TCMH campus, down First Street and to the plaza.
A section of First Street was closed to traffic while the awning was moved.
A large crane set the awning on four pillars shortly after 10 a.m.
The hospital is contributing the awning because it won’t be incorporated in an $18 million construction project under way.
Downtown Houston Inc. retained an engineering firm to assist with the project and raised funds for the effort. The City of Houston also is assisting financially.
