Bobbie “Bob” Gene Simpson, 81, died Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011, at his home in Houston.
He was born Oct. 4, 1930, in Alton, son of Roy and Nettie Johnson Simpson. He and Betty Guffey were married Jan. 4, 1957.
He served four years in the Air Force during the Korean War. He moved to Houston in 1967 and managed the Lucky Dollar Store. The last 20 years he and his son, Kent, owned and operated the Simpson Tire and Auto Station.
He served on the city council, board of adjustments, Lions Club and other organizations. He was a member of the Houston United Methodist Church. He was also a mason for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.
Survivors include his wife, Betty of the home in Houston; a daughter, Terri Diedrich of Licking; a son, Kent Simpson of Houston; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a brother, Wesley Simpson of Alton.
The body was cremated. A private family memorial inurnment will be held in Shiloh Cemetery in Alton at a later date.
