The Houston eighth-grade boys’ basketball team completed the 2011 season with a 48-39 victory Friday against Licking.

Skylur Malam led three players in double figures with 13 points. Nathan Poynter and Austin Schock had 10 points apiece.

The Tigers (9-6) won seven of their final eight games.

“The boys were intense and never took a play off,” said coach Ryan Munson. “You could say our motto for the year was ‘to get after it’, and they did. They reached the level of competitiveness that we expected of them – and it was set high.

“They were fun to watch and a pleasure to coach. Coach (Jason) Puryear and myself wish them all the best of luck as they continue into high school.”

SEVENTH GRADE: Trevor Motzkus had three points in the Tigers’ 37-6 loss to Licking. Taylor Ward added two points.
