Nancy Edna Coats, 102, daughter of William Larry and Polly (Flowers) Ward, was born May 18, 1909, in Cabool, Mo. She passed away Dec. 9, 2011, at Houston House, Houston, Mo.
Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Mansel Coats; a daughter, Versa James; a granddaughter, Lea James; her parents; and 12 brothers and sisters.
She is survived by one daughter, Marilyn Ice and husband, Cody, of Houston, Mo.; one sister, Mildred Pluff of Carrolton, Texas; a sister-in-law, Alice Ward of Columbia, Mo.; four grandchildren, Stevie Ice, Cody W. Ice II, Nancy Moger and Maris Herndon; six great-grandchildren; one step great-grandson; and one great-great grandson.
Nancy grew up in the Oak Grove community. She graduated grade school from the Oak Grove School.
She married Mansel Coats on Jan. 4, 1930, and to this union two daughters were born, Versa Marie and Marilyn June.
Nancy accepted Christ at an early age. She loved to sing. Nancy, Mansel and her sister, Cleo Montgomery, sang at numerous funeral services throughout the years.
Nancy was a wonderful housewife; she loved gardening and cooking family dinners. It was the highlight of her day to have her family over to eat. Nancy also retired from Texas County Memorial Hospital as a dietician; she was the first dietician the hospital ever hired.
Nancy was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Services were 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 12, 2011, at Evans Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bob Moger officiating. Pallbearers were Bob Moger, Royce Herndon, Cody Ice II, Dusty Goforth, R.C. Moger, Jared Fannon and Jon Sprenger. Burial was in Union Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
