The Houston seventh-grade girls used another strong defensive effort to win the Liberty Tournament on Thursday.

Abby Casper scored 10 points and Alexis Dixon had nine as the Lady Tigers cruised past Ava 30-10 to win the championship.

Houston outscored its three opponents 82-27 in three tournament wins.

“These girls are so fun to watch because they play so hard,” Houston coach John Jordan said. “They work hard in practice and carry the intensity over to games.”

Stephanie Crewse scored seven points and Jaydin Ramsey added four for Houston, which led 18-4 at the half.

EIGHTH GRADE: Sarah Kelley scored a team-best seven points in the Lady Tigers’ 32-25 loss Thursday to Ava.

Autumn Walker and Makayla Koch had six points each for Houston, which fell behind 10-5 after the opening quarter.

The Lady Tigers, who finished second in the tournament, missed 18 free throws.

“Disappointing loss,” Jordan said. “The effort was there, but just a poor shooting night. It happens, and the girls will rebound from it.”
