Dr. Dan Vandiver

The superintendent of Houston Schools has requested and been granted “a professional leave of absence” from the district.

In a news release, the board of education said it granted a leave of absence beginning immediately for Dr. Dan Vandiver.

Sharon Horbyk, a school board member, said individual administrators – Amy Dill (elementary), Scott Dill (middle school) and Brenda Dennis (high school) – will be in charge of and responsible for their buildings. The principals will also address situations that would normally go through the superintendent’s office, Horbyk said.

Vandiver, a 1981 Houston High School graduate, accepted his position as Houston superintendent in January 2008. He was previously the assistant superintendent at Hollister.
