Two Colorado residents stopped in Texas County are charged with drug offenses, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.

A Springfield woman was arrested Saturday after a failed attempt to smuggle marijuana into the South Central Correctional Center at Licking.

At approximately 2:54 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, the Licking Police Department received a call from prison officials in reference to a visitor suspected of smuggling drugs into the facility. Police officers and an investigator from the Missouri Department of Corrections confronted the visitor, who admitted to having drugs on her person.

Authorities then recovered seven small plastic bags of marijuana, which the suspect intended to smuggle to a prison inmate.

Arrested was Cindy L. Young, 47, of Springfield. She was incarcerated in the Texas County Jail on a 24-hour hold for delivery of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance in a correctional facility.
