The Houston board of education accepted three resignations and approved two new substitute teachers at Monday’s meeting.

Willy Walker resigned mid-term from his duties as world and American history teacher at the high school and head softball coach. The board also accepted the resignations of Missy Pounds, a cafeteria worker, and Dustin Hotaling, a nighttime elementary custodian.

Ann Marie Stevenson and Christine Torbit were approved as substitute teachers.

Also at the meeting, board members:

–Approved a Missouri School Boards’ Association update regarding staff/student relations. It is known as the “Facebook Law.” The policy delineates the nature of staff student interactions, including the use of electronic communication.

–Heard a report from athletic director Brent Kell regarding athletics and activities throughout the district. Specific requests were detailed from each sport or co-curricular department.

–Received a food service report from Joyce Jones, who noted the success of the snack program in the elementary building.

–Addressed questions to building administrators regarding monthly written reports.

–Heard Daniel Narancich has been employed in the capacity of assistant coach with the high school boys’ basketball team.

–Were given a report during closed session from Scott Dill, acting superintendent, regarding coaching positions for the 2012-’13 school year. No action was taken.

The next monthly school board meeting is 6 p.m. Feb. 13. There was a special board meeting Wednesday to review applications for the vacant superintendent’s position.
