Revenue from sales taxes collected in Texas County rose nearly 4 percent in 2011, according to a year-end report by the Missouri Department of Revenue.
Merchants in Texas County collect three half-cent sales taxes at cash registers. Each totaled more than $955,000. That’s up more than $30,000 from last year and about $40,000 more than 2009.
The December report was exceptionally strong, increasing about 19 percent from the same period a year ago. More than $85,000 was collected on the trio – an increase of nearly $14,000 on each tax.
The reports are considered a good barometer of economic activity.
