Military veteran

Lloyd Calvin Grogan, 88, of Grandview, died Monday, Dec. 19, 2011.

He was born Aug. 28, 1923, in Grogan, son of Roy Ray and Gladys Miller Grogan.

He graduated from Cabool High School in 1941. He was a WWII veteran of the Army Air Corps.

He received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Missouri-Columbia and a master’s degree in engineering from Ohio State University. He moved to the Kansas City area in 1951, retiring from Allied Signal (Honeywell) as a senior industrial engineer in the early 1990s.

He was a southern Baptist deacon of 50 years, active member of his church, member of the Missouri Camper on Mission organization for the past 35-plus years and camp chaplain of his Gideon’s International camp.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dayta; and a sister, Nadine Grogan Thompson.

Survivors include three children, Dr. Dennis Grogan and wife, Colleen, of Cincinnati, Ohio, Denise Grogan of Grandview and Rebecca Grogan of Gladstone; three sisters, Lorene Hughes of Kansas City, Norma Fern McGuire of Olathe, Kan., and Eva Fay Booker of Elk Creek; and two grandchildren, Sarah and Jeffery.

Graveside services with full military honors were Thursday, Dec. 22, in Green Lawn Cemetery. A memorial services was at Grace Point Baptist Church in Kansas City with pastors Bob Michael and Kirtes Calvery officiating.
