Millie Violet Ray, 90, of Licking, Mo., went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2012, at Licking Park Manor with all her children at her side. She was the last of the Eli and Martha (Kell) Garrison children. She was born on Sept. 5, 1921, around the Raymondville community.
She married Artie Ray on Nov. 25, 1968, in Doniphan, Mo. He preceded her in death on April 19, 2007.
She is survived by her three daughters, Shirley of Licking, Mo., Louise of Black Canyon City, Ariz., and Dorothy of Houston, Mo.; one son, Gene, and wife, Carole, of Raymondville, Mo.; two granddaughters; six great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one daughter, Martha Sue; one granddaughter, Brette; four brothers; and four sisters.
She attended Tyrone Freewill Baptist Church and Brown Hill Church. Violet was a homemaker who enjoyed piece quilting for herself and quilted them with the Tyrone Ladies on every Wednesday. She loved to help with community suppers at the Tyrone Community Building along with the music and jig dancing.
The family would like to thank the staff of Licking Park Manor and the Hospice Compassus of Mountain Grove, Mo., for the special care they gave to our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother.
Services were 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 23, at Evans Funeral Home Chapel with Wesley Wallace officiating. Burial was in Tyrone Cemetery. Pallbearers were Gene DeWitt, Rob Strunk, Dustin Hardy, Randy Hardy, Steve Southworth and Tim Hardy. Honorary pallbearers were Margaret Rowden, Bridgritte DeWitt and Nicholle Edwards.
