In his address to the Houston school board at last week’s meeting, athletic director Brent Kell presented updates for each athletic program at Houston Schools. One of the chief concerns was the state of the school’s track.
Kell told the board the track was “in awful shape” and not regulation size. He also cited “very large cracks and inadequately marked lines.”
Other issues with the track include:
–High jump runway is too small and in area that holds water.
–Need new high jump mats and a cover to protect them from vandalism and weather.
–Long jump runway is cracked and covered with weeds.
–Need new high jump bars and standards that will hold the bar.
–Discus and shot put areas are not adequately caged to insure safety.
Kell is scheduled to meet with the board in closed session Wednesday night to discuss coaching staffs with each individual sport.
Kell told the board in last week’s meeting there will be two replacements with the HHS assistant football coaching staff as well as the middle school boys’ basketball head coach. Since Kell’s presentation, softball coach Willy Walker resigned, leaving a vacancy at his position.
