About 72 percent of the state's voters are expected to participate next week.

Filings closed for various boards that will be filed in April by voters.

The Houston board of education field includes Steve Pounds, Tadd McCloud, James Bathon, Jim Root, Troy “Butch” Castleman, Robert James Enfield Jr. and Kay Walker. Pounds is an incumbent. Kathy Hutcheson did not seek re-election.

The only race for the Houston City Council is for Ward II. Phil Meyer and Sheila Walker filed. The incumbent, Joyce Campbell, did not seek re-election. Others filing: Joe Honeycutt, Ward I; and Don Romines, Ward III.

Seeking a five-year seat on the Texas County Memorial Hospital board of trustees are Gail Crum, Houston; Jim Perry, Cabool; and Greg Bennett, Cabool. The slot available was previously held by the late Jane Kirkwood.

Other filings across the county:

Raymondville School: Loretta Hinton filed for a one-year term and Paul Murray filed for a two-year term. Justin Dixon and Leland Johnston are seeking a three-year position.

Plato Schools: Incumbents Penny Morrison and Mike Friend filed for a three-year term. They are challenged by David Hall and Tina Routh.

Success School: Michael Glidewell, Mary Glidewell and Kevin Irwin are seeking two, three-year positions. Irwin is the incumbent. Ross Olson, Angela Hammock and Carl Huff are seeking two, two-year terms. Huff is an incumbent. Don Kern, Jason Burch and Nancy Davis are seeking two, two-year terms. Burch is an incumbent.
