J. Ross Hill, 70, died Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012.
He was born Nov. 29, 1941, son of J. Sherman and Myrtle Fox Hill. He and Martha S. Bowdish were married in 1962 in Columbia. He and Lois were married March 13, 1982.
He was a faithful member and served in many capacities at the Licking Christian Church. He accepted Christ at an early age. Before returning to Licking, he was attending churches in his previous hometowns.
He spent his professional life in the world of computers at State Farm in Columbia and in Bloomington, Ill. He later worked at Owen Nursery in Bloomington, Ill. He started Hill’s Computer Programming Service in 1983. He semi-retired in 1999 when his son, Randy, took over the business.
He loved to assist his son and eat lunch with him and his co-worker and friend, Dick Goins, at Linn Creek Country Club. He loved to read, nap, cook, eat his favorite dishes, discuss politics with Gene Honeywell and spend time with his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marty; and his son, Jim.
Survivors include his wife, Lois; two sons, Randy Hill of Camdenton and Jeff Harper of Rogersville; a daughter, Katie Sherrill of Licking; eight grandchildren; a brother, Roger Hill of Licking; a sister, Frances “Frankie” Thompson of St. Louis; and a host of other family members.
Services were Saturday, Jan. 14, at Licking Christian Church with Rick Mosher and Pastor Robb Webster officiating. Burial was in Rock Springs Cemetery under the direction of Fox Funeral Home.
