Houston Rural Fire Department personnel work to contain a grass fire Thursday afternoon in a pasture on Cleveland Road south of Houston.

Volunteer firefighters from the Houston Rural Fire Department responded to two grass fires Thursday afternoon.

The first occurred at about 1:30 p.m. in a pasture on Cleveland Road south of Houston.

Using a small, mobile truck equipped with water and a hose, and by raking the edges of the fire toward the center, firefighters were able to contain and extinguish the approximately one-acre blaze.

The second response took place at about 3:15 p.m., when a call was received regarding brush fire behind the Houston airport.
