Rachelle Lamb reacts with her daughter after advancing to the next round of American Idol.

A Houston High School graduate potentially became an overnight star with a performance last Thursday night on the hit TV show American Idol.

Rachelle Lamb, 26, who now lives in Mountain View, impressed the Idol judges with her rendition of “Find Somebody New” from a taped audition in St. Louis.

It was an appropriate song for Lamb, who told the judges she is going through a divorce and had been held back by her husband.

“I used to be a professional singer, and then I went off and fell in love and got married, and he took all them dreams away from me,” Lamb told the judges.

Lamb explained that her husband hated the song she was about to sing.

“Well, that’s the one we want to hear,” judge Jennifer Lopez said.

Lamb’s daughter, Madison, was by her side as she sang the Faith Hill song for the judges. Mother and daughter danced together as song continued.

Lamb received the answer every Idol contest dreams to hear — “yes” — from all three judges.

“I think you sing great … I like your moxie,” said judge Steven Tyler, the iconic lead singer of Aerosmith.

Lopez commented on Lamb’s energy. Grammy Award-winning producer Randy Jackson, another Idol judge, said, “I’m impressed.”

Lamb left the audition room and was greeted outside the doors with hugs from friends as she held up the yellow paper representing her advancement to the next round in Hollywood.

Forty-six singers who auditioned in St. Louis received the golden ticket to advance. The city was the first producers of the reality show visited last June for the season 11 auditions. The judges visited in September.
