Mary Hampton

Mary Elizabeth Houser Hampton, 105, died Feb. 12, 2012.

She was born April 4, 1906 at Yukon, daughter of John and Etta Mae Dial Houser. She married William Arthur Hampton in 1926.

She grew up in Colorado before later moving to a farm south of Houston in the Indian Creek community.

She graduated from Houston High School in 1925. She lived briefly in Kansas City before returning to Houston in 1933.

She was a housewife and also worked some at Fredrick’s 5 and 10 in Houston.

She and her husband visited all 50 states, parts of Mexico and most of Canada.

Shortly following her husband’s death, she moved into Houston House and after several years moved to Licking Park Manor.

She was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Houston.

She was active in the Rebecca Lodge and loved her time at the Houston Senior Citizen facility, where she enjoyed many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Arthur, in 1989.

Survivors include a son, Ronald Hampton, of Donna, Texas; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services are 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at Evans Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Howell Burkhead officiating. Visitation is 10 a.m. until the service. Private burial will be in Pine Lawn Cemetery.
