Robert Lee Gunter, 68, died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, at his home in Houston.
He was born Nov. 7, 1943, in Hocomo, son of John and Beatrice Collins Gunter. He and Lovella Davenport were married March 4, 1962, in West Plains.
He worked as a welder in Colorado in his earlier years. He was a logger most of his life until retiring.
After retirement, he enjoyed woodworking, hunting — especially turkey hunting — and fishing. He enjoyed teaching his grandchildren how to fish. He also loved to go mushroom hunting and gardening.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two infant grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of almost 50 years, Lovella of the home in Houston; two sons, Robert L. Gunter Jr. and Richard Gunter of Bucyrus; a daughter, Leslie Wilson of Springfield; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four brothers, Wayne Gunter of Colorado, Wayland Gunter and David Gunter of West Plains and Joe Gunter of Success; and two sisters, Sylvia Peterman of Eufaula, Okla., and Zella Mae Rhoades of West Plains.
Services are 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, at Success Baptist Church with Pastors Gary Davenport and Ted Moore officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
