Donations are sought for a county-wide event that provides school supplies to low-income children. The event is Aug. 7 at Houston.

Houston Ministerial Alliance is taking over a “Back to School Fair” that benefits Texas County school children who wouldn’t have necessary supplies. Federal budget shortfalls threatened the program overseen for years by Ozark Action Inc.

The goal of the event is to allow low-income children in kindergarten through eighth grades to pick up supplies needed in classrooms.

“Just image the embarrassment of the children whose parents cannot afford the required supplies,” said LeAnn Edington, chairperson. “Our hope is that helping low-income families bear the financial burden for classroom supplies will enhance educational and social experiences of these children. Organizers said 321 children were helped last year. A larger number is expected this year.

Tax-deductible donations are sought by the organization. Send them to: Houston Ministerial Alliance, 16583 Iowa Road, Houston, Mo. 65483.
