HPD handled several investigations recently.

A Houston man was arrested and charged with discharging a firearm inside the city limits Wednesday night by the Houston Police Department.

Chief Jim McNiell said the 28-year-old subject was placed on a 12-hour hold at the Texas County Jail. He described the matter as domestic in nature.

Sergeant Tim Ceplina said officers responded to a call of shots fired at 4:23 p.m. at 223 South Street. Ceplina said authorities determined the single shot was an accidental discharge. Police seized a Marlin 30/30 rifle and three rounds of ammunition.

At that time, no arrests were made. Police asked the male and his girlfriend to separate and have no further contact, according to McNiell.

Ceplina said police receive a call around 7 p.m. from the girlfriend, who stated the male subject had been texting her and threatening suicide. Ceplina said an officer contacted the subject, who was compliant and met him at 9:15 p.m. at the Texas County Sheriff’s Department. He was arrested and charged at that time.
