Military veteran

Max Duane Howard, 79, died Friday, March 16, 2012, at his residence in Centertown.

He was born March 26, 1932, in Bado, son of William W. and Marion C. Wendt. He and Sippie Georgina Amick were married Dec. 20, 1953, in Clara.

He was a Navy veteran. He was a 1949 graduate of Cabool High School and graduate of Southwest Missouri State University.

He was a member of the Centertown Baptist Church, where he was ordained as a deacon. At the time of his passing, he was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jefferson City. He was also a member of NARFE.

He enjoyed reading, playing solitaire and Skipbo, fast food and flying, which prompted him to get his pilot’s license.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Steven Max Howard; three sisters; and one brother.

Surviors include his wife, Sippie Georgina of the home; a daughter, Virginia L. Yacko of Rocky Point, N.Y.; two brothers, A.W. Howard of Tulsa, Okla., and Carl Howard of Atlanta, Texas; two grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Memorial services were Tuesday, March 20, at First Baptist Church of Jefferson City with Dr. Doyle Sager officiating. Services were under the direction of Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services of California, Mo.

Memorials are suggested to the Samaritan Center of Jefferson City, 1310 East McCarty Street, Jefferson City, Mo., 65101.
