Plato superintendent Ben Yocom, center, accepts the "Distinction in Performance" award on behalf of the school district during a March 5 ceremony in Rolla.

The Plato R-V School District was among 45 districts in south central Missouri who received the “Distinction in Performance” award were recently honored by South Central Regional Professional Development Center.

The award is one of the state’s most prestigious honors for local school districts. It is based on the district’s performance relative to student performance standards that are used to determine state accreditation through the Missouri School Improvement Program. In order to earn distinction in performance, districts must meet the majority of these performance standards at either a high or significantly improved level.

The awards were presented at the annual “Distinction in Performance” banquet March 5 at the Havener Center on the Missouri University of Science and Technology campus. The event was sponsored and hosted by the South Central Regional Professional Development Center and the University. John Lewis, Director of South Central RPDC, presided at the banquet.

“The Plato R-V School District is extremely excited and proud to have earned the Distinction in Performance award,” said superintendent Ben Yocom. “We realize that a significant amount of work went into this achievement and that the task does not get any easier with increased expectations, coupled with decreased funding. We will continue to make a commitment to the students at Plato and doing ‘whatever it takes’ to increase the learning opportunities for the students.”
