Donald Roger Wantland, 83, of Raymondville, died Sunday, March 18, 2012.

He was born Sept. 5, 1928, in Raymondville, son of Mosey Petty and Neva Kell Wantland McColgin. He and Carol Hood Wantland were married June 26, 1954, in Mississippi.

He attended school at Raymondville and Licking. He joined the Army in 1952 and was later stationed in Germany during the Korean War to await orders. He was a big engine mechanic of the ‘A’ Battery 330th Field Artillery Battalion in Germany.

He worked as a barber for 54 years in St. Louis, Fort Leonard Wood and the Houston area. He loved gardening, going to the Raymondville picnic and being with his family.

Survivors include four children, Donnie, Sherry, Debbie and Shannon; nine grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol; his parents; and three brothers, Dean, Jimmy and Billy.

Graveside services were Wednesday, March 21, in Vollmar Cemetery in Raymondville under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
