A second Ronald McDonald House is planned in Springfield.

Officials from Mercy Hospital Springfield and Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Ozarks formally announced last week that Springfield’s second Ronald

McDonald House will be built on the sixth floor of Mercy Children’s Hospital.

DeWitt & Associates will begin construction this week on this “home away from home” for families of seriously ill and injured children receiving treatment at Mercy Hospital Springfield.

Mercy has provided more than 8,200 square feet of space for the new Ronald McDonald House featuring 10 bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. Mercy is also contributing significant ongoing operational support including utilities, phone and Internet service, linens, towels and maintenance services. RMHC of the Ozarks is responsible for the costs of infill, furnishings, supplies, ongoing staffing and remaining operational costs. “We are looking forward to furthering our longstanding relationship with Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Ozarks,” said Jay Guffey, chief operating officer of Mercy Hospital Springfield. “Partnering to provide this opportunity inside our hospital to families of our patients is something we are very excited about at Mercy, and we are thrilled to be moving forward with this vision we have shared for many years.”

The house features large common areas, including a living room, dining room, kitchen, playroom, gathering room, laundry center and public restrooms.
