Texas County farmers may benefit from a disaster declaration following a Feb. 29 storm.

Farmers in Texas County may benefit from a disaster declaration sparked by high winds and tornados on Feb. 29.

Texas County is listed as a “contiguous county,” which means producers may be eligible for programs based on the designation.

Farmers in eligible counties have eight months from the date of the March 9 declaration to apply for low-interest loans to help cover part of their actual losses. Farm Service Agency will consider each loan application on its own merits, taking into account the extent of losses, security available and repayment ability.

Loans for physical losses must be used to replace or repair damage to buildings, fences or compensate the farmer for losses of basic livestock, stored crops or supplies on hand, equipment, that were lost due to disaster.

To qualify, a farmer must have suffered an actual physical loss that was essential to the successful operation of the farm.
