Paul Donald “Don” Garwitz, 82, of Springfield, died Sunday, April 1, 2012, in his home. He was born Feb. 1, 1930, in Springfield, son of Paul Garwitz and Goldie Mae Hilterbrand Garwitz Lachmund. He married and Patricia “Patti” Fielder were married June 6, 1954.

He grew up in Houston and graduated from Houston High School. He joined the Air Force in 1947.

He lived most of his adult life in Springfield. He enjoyed his retirement career in the real estate business. He loves going to auctions, going to the lake and fishing. He and his wife took several RV vacations traveling all over the country. He enjoyed family gatherings.

He was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) nearly a year ago.

He was preceded in death by his parents

Survivors include his wife, Patti of the home; four children, Gary Garwitz, Pat Allen, Gina Engleman and Jennifer Martin; eight grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and a brother, Robert “Bob” Garwitz of St. Louis.

Services were Thursday, April 5, at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home in Springfield. Private family burial will be in Missouri Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
