Texas County Food Pantry Inc. intake specialist Melanie Self has been appointed as the Region Eight representative for the Balance of State Committee.

The group is a sub-committee of the Governor’s Committee to End Homelessness, also known as the the Missouri Interagency Council on Homelessness.

Region Eight consists of nine counties across Missouri, including Dent, Douglas, Howell, Laclede, Oregon, Ozark, Shannon, Texas and Wright. The committee is charged with serving in an advisory capacity to the Balance of State lead agency, providing input and structure to Quarterly Regional Housing Team meetings and revising the “10-Year Plan to End Homelessness.”

“This appointment for Melanie is great for her and the Texas County Food Pantry,” director Bennie Cook said.

The pantry has six employees: Cook, Self, patient advocate Cindy Haley, thrift store manager Debbie Malchert , food manager John Randall and maintenance manager Robert Malota. It also has several volunteer workers who help with day-to-day activities.
