The Houston tennis team cruised past Licking 7-2 at home Tuesday for its first victory of the season.

The Tigers won the top five singles matches as part of their convincing win.

“It is good to see our kids get some wins,” HHS tennis coach John Jordan said. “You could see our kids getting confidence with their strokes as the matches went on. Our serving needs to improve, but I saw good things with our forehands and backhands as the matches went on.”

Freshman Olivia Woosley had the biggest margin of victory –– an 8-1 win in her No. 4 singles match. Lizzy Swindell, another freshman, won 8-4. Austin Bathon and Chris Moore were each victorious 8-5 and Randy Barker won 8-6.

Ely Todd lost his No. 6 singles match 9-7.

In doubles play, Bathon and Barker won 6-2 and the team of Woosley and Moore squeaked out a 7-6 (9-7) victory.

Swindell and Todd lost their doubles match 7-6 (7-4).

JUNIOR VARSITY: The JV tennis team won both singles matches and dropped two doubles matches Tuesday against Licking.

Aaron Stilley and Julia Bandar won their singles matches 6-0.

The team of Haley Kelley and Patience Clinton were defeated 6-2. Aexis Adey and Kayla Shriver lost 6-4.
