Merchants in Houston reported nearly identical retail transactions in the first quarter of 2012, compared to the same period a year ago, reports the Missouri Department of Revenue.
The total from a one-cent sales tax totaled $58,157 in March, which was down $248 from the same period a year ago. For the first quarter of the year, $163,730 was collected. That’s nearly identical from last year — up $460.
Retailers also collect two quarter-cent sales taxes for streets, sidewalks and utility work and one eighth-cent sales tax earmarked for debt repayment on a fire truck.
