Velena Ingram

A 1998 Houston High School graduate has been named the new executive director of the Houston Area Chamber of Commerce.

Velena Ingram accepted the position following interviews Thursday night with five finalists, according to chamber president Bill Bridges. She replaces Sharon Horbyk, who resigned last month after two years as director to pursue another employment opportunity.

“The board is supportive of Velena and excited for the new opportunities she will bring the chamber,” Bridges said.

Ingram, who has a background in healthcare, is currently the branch operations manager for Regions Bank in Rolla. She began the position in October.

After receiving her LPN from Texas County Technical College, Ingram was the school nurse at Salem R-80 from April 2006 to June 2007. She was employed at Rivers Hospice (May 2009 – Feb. 2010) and American Home Care (Feb. 2010 – Dec. 2010) in West Plains before accepting a role with Oxford Health Care in Springfield. She was employed there nine months before the position was eliminated.

Bridges said Ingram’s first day with the chamber is May 5. That day is also Springfest for the chamber.
