Lillie Kinder

Lillie Avis Harris Kinder, 95, died Tuesday, April 24, 2012, in Licking.

She was born Nov. 6, 1916, near Edgar Springs, daughter of Henry A. and Jane Elizabeth (Mace) Harris. She and James “Buck” Kinder were married Jan. 23, 1936.

She grew up in the Lenox community, attending school and church there. She became a Christian at age 11. She loved all of her Sunday school teachers and a few years later she loved teaching Sunday school.

She taught in rural schools in the 1940s and moved to Licking in 1952. She worked at Rawlings until heart attacks prevented her from working. She moved her church membership from Baptist Church Lenox to the First Baptist Church of Licking.

At church in Licking, she started teaching in the junior departments, Vacation Bible School and Training Union. She was teaching in the elderly ladies’ Sunday school class at the time of her illness. She worked many years in Women’s Missionary Union at the church. She always enjoyed the bible study at East Maplecrest. She also served several years as secretary for the Texas County Association WMU.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Alma Adey; two brothers, James Harris and Edward Harris; and two sisters, Mary Belle Harris and an infant sister.

Survivors include a daughter, Alta Adey; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Frank Harris of St. James and William Lee Harris of St. Charles; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Services were Friday, April 27, at at First Baptist Church in Licking with Pastors Rob Lilly and Robert Gifford officiating. Burial was in Boone Creek Cemetery.
