Charles Leroy Cartee, 71, died Monday, April 23, 2012, following a nine-month battle with cancer.
He was born June 21, 1940, in St. Louis, son of Leroy and Sarah Ardeenia Johnston Cartee. He and Joyce Kipper were married in June 1995.
After his mother passed away when he was three years old, he and his sisters moved to Licking to live with their aunt and uncle, Josiephine and Elba Jones. Two years later, a cousin, Jim Staley, joined the family after his mother passed away.
He graduated from Licking High School in 1958. He attended First Baptist Church of Licking and accepted Christ as his savior as a teenager.
Following graduation, he moved to St. Louis to work for Jake-Evans Manufacturing. He later worked for and retired from Liberty Tobacco/Candy Company.
He enjoyed watching St. Louis Cardinals games. Earlier in life, he worked at the Licking skating rink.
He was preceded in death by his parents and special aunt and uncle.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce of the home; a daughter, Rebecca Lynn Curnell; two sisters, Margaret Burch of Licking and Josie Hutsell of Newport News, Va.; a brother, Jim Staley of Houston; three grandchildren; stepchildren and step-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Memorial services will be held at a later date. His body was cremated.
