Dates have been announced for the 61st running of the Raymondville Picnic.
The event is June 14-16 at the picnic grounds on Highway B. There is free parking.
This year’s picnic marks the 50th anniversary of Bluff City Shows midway, which will offer rides, food and games. Advance tickets for the midway can be purchased at the village office for $12 or $15 at the midway.
Entertainment — country and gospel music — is planned. Thursday night will highlight the “Lewis Family Band.” Friday brings “South 63” and Saturday includes “Country Survival.”
The Blue Heaven Club will offer hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs and homemade cakes nightly. The Raymondville School PTO also will have food for sale. The Raymondville Volunteer Fire Department will sponsor bingo games. The Houston Lions Club is conducting hearing tests on Friday and Saturday. Candidates for office also are expected to meet the public.
On Thursday, the Licking FFA chapter will sponsor a petting zoo. There also will be a health fair in the community building.
On Friday, the first “A Taste of Home” competition is planned. The public is invited to bring their favorite homemade jellies and jams, salsas and cookies in the community building. Awards will be presented by Miss Texas County Shelby Rundahl. Saturday will feature a variety of arts and crafts for sale by local artisans. There also will be outdoor vendors during the picnic.
There also will be a special demonstration by the Silver Nickel Shooters on Friday.
