The Houston High School girls’ 4×200 meter relay team established a meet record April 23 at the Willow Springs Relay.
The team of Kayla Herndon, Taylor Harrison, Taylor Korte and Lauren Hoover ran the relay in 1 minute, 55 seconds to eclipse a record set in 1986.
The team’s first-place finish was the lone victory for HHS at the meet. Korte finished second in the 100 meters in 13.28 and was third in the 200. Herndon placed third in the 100 hurdles with a time of 17.75
In the April 10 season opener at Salem, the 4×200 relay finished second in 1:57. Herndon was fourth in both the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles. Korte finished fourth in the 100.
Korte won the 100 meters April 16 in Ava with a time of 13:47. She also finished first in the 200. Herndon won the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles. The 4×200 relay also finished first.
Reanna Craig had a third-place finish in the 1600 meters with a time of 6:23.
Herndon had second-place finishes in the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles April 19 at Mountain Grove. Hoover placed third in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes. Dani Sears was fifth in the long jump with a leap of 11 feet, 9 inches.
At Monday’s SCA meet, Herndon and Craig each had second-place finishes. Herndon was runner-up in the 100 hurdles with a time of 17.18 and Craig ran the 1600 in 6:03.63 to finish second.
Herndon also placed third in the 300 hurdles in 52.37. Craig was third in the 800 with a time of 2:50.61.
Korte placed fourth in the 200 in 27.44. Hoover was fifth in the 100 with a time of 13.28. Korte finished sixth in 13.41.
Both the 4×200 and 4×100 relay teams finished fourth.
