The Houston board of education approved a 10-year agreement with Pepsi during a meeting Monday.

The Houston School District extended a 10-year contract with Pepsi that included the purchase of three new athletic scoreboards during Monday’s monthly board meeting.

The decade-long agreement included an upfront donation of $43,028 for new scoreboards at the football field, Hiett Gymnasium and the middle school gym.

Also at the meeting, members:

––Heard from Superintendent Scott Dill, who gave special recognition to Brian Wilbanks and Clinton Waters for their unplanned responsibilities during the school year. Wilbanks, the assistant high school principal, worked in the middle school office after Dill was named acting superintendent. Waters served as interim high school principal the final month of the school year following the early departure of Brenda Dennis.

––Approved several Missouri School Boards’ Association policies that were introduced at the April board meeting. Dill said the policies will be available on the district’s website as soon as they are processed by MSBA.

––Voted to endorse the Missouri Public Education Vision Project –– a collaborative effort by members of MSBA and Missouri Association of School Administrators to delineate the vision for public schools in Missouri.

––Heard from members of the FFA advisory committee regarding a proposal for the construction of a permanent corral structure on campus. Board members will coordinate with Van Kirkwood, sponsor of the FFA program, for an onsite visit to clarify the scope of the project. The board will address this issue at the June meeting.

––Will solicit bids for paper, propane, fuel, milk, bread and pest control for the upcoming school year.

––Approved an updated copy of the district employee handbook. Dill said the updates aligned the handbook to reflect current district personnel and policy.

––Went into closed session.

The next school board meeting is 6 p.m. June 11 at the Exceptional Child Cooperative. A special meeting will be held at 6 p.m. June 26, at the superintendent’s office to approve the budget.
