Sales tax revenue reported in Houston in 2017 was up slightly.

Revenue from a one-cent sales tax collected by Houston merchants was up about 7.4 percent from the same period a year ago, says the Missouri Department of Revenue.

The total for the month was $47,598, a jump of about $3,289 from a year ago. For the first four months of the year, $211,327 has been collected. That’s an increase of about 2 percent from a year ago.

Retailers also collect two, quarter-cent sales taxes for streets, sidewalks and utility needs. Each contributed about $11,547. For the year about $50,400 has been collected from both. That’s up about $1,100 each from last year.

About $5,774 was collected for the month from an eighth-cent sales tax earmarked for fire truck debt repayment.
