A well-known Houston resident was recently honored with a resolution from the Missouri House of Representatives.

W.T. “Ted” Scheets, who turns 99 on Nov. 6, received the honor. For about 45 years, he owned the downtown Houston business bearing his name, W.T. Scheets Hardware and Implement in partnership with his wife of nearly 70 years, Lorene, who preceded him in death.

Over the years, he has given to his community: For 17 years he was the Houston fire chief and carried the title for four years with the rural fire department. He has been active for more than 60 years in the First Christian Church in Houston. He served on numerous boards, among them, Houston City Council, Board of Rural Development, board of trustees for Cookson Hills Children’s Home and Houston Senior Housing.

The Scheets family includes his children, Ila Jean Farris, Bruce Scheets, Helen Branson and the late Charles Michael Scheets.
