Rooty Root, age 78, son of Elwin M. and Gertrude K. (Newmaster) Root, was born Sept. 13, 1933, at Porterville, Calif. He died May 30, 2012, at his home in Licking, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his little sister, Paulina; and his wife, Delma LaVerle (Caldwell) Root.
Rooty grew up in Oregon and then later moved to California. He joined the United States Air Force and served in the Korean War. He met his wife while stationed at March Air Force Base in Riverside, Calif. LaVerle and Rooty were married for 48 years; during that time they had two children, Linda Rachelle Buchanan and Ronald Howard Root.
Rooty has three grandchildren, Shawna Buchanan of Licking, Mo., Jessica Green of Marshall, Mo., and Elizabeth Buchanan of Houston, Mo. He has one great-granddaughter, Chloi Buchanan of Houston, Mo.
Rooty was the owner of Rootco Metal Works. He spent the majority of his time out in his shop working/playing with his “toys.” When he was not out in his shop, he was inside either watching the Speed Channel or looking at cars on the Internet. He was a very crafty and talented man when it came to anything about cars or racing. It was his passion in life.
Rooty’s most valuable possession was his hotrod that he built from scratch. Anytime he drove it or talked about it, it was sure to bring a smile to his face.
Rooty will be laid to rest with his late wife, Delma LaVerle Root, in Ketchum, Okla. Rooty was loved by many and will never be forgotten. He was a wonderful provider for his family, and an amazing Papa to his three granddaughters and great-granddaughter. He will greatly be missed, and never forgotten.
A Celebration Of Life Memorial service was 1-3 p.m. Monday, June 4, at the Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Mountain Grove Hospice Compassus. The body was cremated under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
