A Houston man died Saturday following an accidental shooting. 

A Houston man died of an accidental gunshot wound Saturday.

Donald R. Shrout, 63, died after the incident early Saturday afternoon in northwest Texas County.

A report filed by an investigating Texas County Sheriff’s Department officer indicated that Shrout was shot in the stomach when a pistol discharged while being cleaned.

The incident occurred near the end of Highway AF in an area known as “Buckner’s Bottom” where Shrout and two other men were camping.

A medical helicopter was dispatched to the scene, and

Shrout was transported to Texas County Memorial Hospital, where he later died.

Authorities said Shrout was hit by a .40-caliber bullet.

While he was still able to talk at the scene of the incident, Shrout told a county officer that the pistol had fired by accident.

Memorial services for Mr. Shrout are 10 a.m. Saturday, June 23, at the Boiling Springs Recreational Area, Licking. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested for a headstone, c/o Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home, Mountain Grove.
