A panhandler was arrested Thursday in Houston after a computer check showed he was wanted in two counties, police said.
Douglas E. Burton, 38, of Mountain View, was arrested for having active warrants in West Plains and St. Francois County. An officer made the arrest at Walmart after being dispatched there regarding a man panhandling near the store.
After Burton stated he was in need of some assistance, the officer transported him to the Texas County Food Pantry. A computer check then revealed the warrants.
Burton was taken to the Texas County Jail. West Plains police later arrived and assumed custody of him.
