The National Weather Service says Texas County residents need to be attentive to weather conditions today.
Scattered thunderstorms will move through the area this morning with hail the size of nickels and frequent lightning.
The elevated risk for severe storms is this afternoon. There is a risk of large hail the size of golf balls. Damaging winds in excess of 60 miles per hour and an isolated tornado are all possible.
Those storms will fire up as a front becomes positioned across the region and an upper level disturbance approaches from the northwest. The weather service said sufficient instability and wind shear will be in place to support strong to severe thunderstorms, including a few super cells. The greatest threat comes at mid-afternoon into the evening hours.
Heavy rainfall with the potential for localized flooding, along with frequent lightning, will accompany the storms.
