Donations are sought for a county-wide event that provides school supplies to low-income children. The event is Aug. 7 at Houston.

The Houston Ministerial Alliance is undertaking this year’s “Back to School” Fair Aug. 7 to help provide supplies to children from low-income homes.

Children from kindergarten through eighth grade at Texas County schools are invited from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Houston Elementary School gym.

“Schools do not furnish all of the supplies children need for the school year. It is our goal to assist families where parents cannot afford the supplies their children need to participate in the upcoming year,” said LeAnn Edington, chairman. “Your support can make this effort a success. If you would like to contribute or volunteer for this event, please contact us.”

During the event other services will be offered include: health checkups, (physicals, hearing, vision, dental, height and weight), Family Support Division information, library services, fire safety, conservation office information, electricity safety, handicapped services, nutrition, budgeting ideas and Parents as Teachers program.

Families are encouraged to pre-register so they don’t have to pre-register. For more information, call Teresa Arthur at 417-967-2036.
