Special Olympics

The Houston Police Department is selling Missouri Special Olympics T-shirts from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday at Walmart.

The effort raises funds for the state’s Special Olympics, which is the charity of choice for more than 40 years for Missouri’s law enforcement agencies. Through the selling of shirts, more than 15,000 specially gifted athletes are able to compete in athletic events throughout the year at no cost to them or their families.

Because the Houston Police Department raised more than $1,000 last year, the organization will be among those agencies listed on the back of the T-shirt. The cost is $10 each.

“I’m appreciative of the community’s support from last year and look forward to your support in helping raise money for such a wonderful cause,” said Houston Police Chief Jim McNiell. “Not only will you be donating to the cause, you will also receive a nice-looking Special Olympic Law Enforcement Torch Run T-shirt. Thanks in advance for your continued support.”
