A Houston High School graduate has been named an assistant volleyball coach at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin.
Rachel Rees will be part of the staff under the leadership of head coach Trish Knight.
“I am really excited and grateful for the opportunity to coach at MSSU,” Rees said. “I’ve looked up to Trish since I was a young player and am thrilled for the chance to coach with her. We are excited for what this year has in store for the MSSU volleyball program.”
A 2004 HHS graduate, Rees was a four-year starter in college at setter. She played one year at William Woods before transferring to Evangel. She graduated in 2008. While at Evangel, she was a three-time academic all-american.
Rees’ previous coaching experience included one year at Raymondville Middle School and a season as head varsity coach at Eldon High School.
Rees replaces Austin Warren, who left Missouri Southern to take the head coaching position at Camdenton High School.
“I am really happy to have Rachel join our staff,” Knight said. “She has had experience as a head coach at the club and high School level. Rachel was an accomplished setter and has a good grasp of the game, both technically and strategically. She will be an excellent addition to our staff.”
Rees has a four-year old son, Daxon, and is engaged to Dustin Kirkman. The couple plans a summer of 2013 wedding.
