A more than 15-year board member with the Texas County Library has retired.

Sally Smith of Houston was recently recognized for her service. She resigned and served a brief stint as the library’s director.

Smith will continue to volunteer with Friends of the Library and help in its downtown Houston bookstore. She will also serve as an at-large director for the Texas County Library Foundation.

Using their own personal funds, library board members presented Smith a 14-inch tall stemmed Godinger crystal bowl filled with fresh roses and lilies.

The library is supported by a five-member board that gives of their time and business experience to keep the library running smoothly. The management skills of the board, their ability to seek and obtain grants, desire to provide up-to-date technology and attention to upgrading and maintaining library real estate provide a much higher than average rural library atmosphere for Texas and contiguous counties.
